|
 |
The Grape Valley is situated in a canyon, on the west side of the Flaming Mountains and 15 kilometers northeast of the seat of Turpan County in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Here is a world of unique beauty, presenting a striking contrast with the hot, dry and barren outside. Cushioned by green grass and graced with green trees, the valley is a world of green with brooks, canals and sparkling springs. There is a poetic flavor to the idyllic beauty of the valley. Around the grapevines, vibrant poplar trees tower and blooming flowers grow, while cottages and adobe houses are sit charmingly on the valley’s sides.

The best place to enjoy the grapes is Grape Valley. Every August the sweet air will herald the vintage. This green paradise is covered with layer upon layer of grapes.
In the valley there is a reception center where dense grapevines interweave with each other and winding paths lead to secluded places with clusters of grapes within easy reach.8 kilometers long, half a kilometer wide and inhabited by about 6,000 people of the Uygur, Hui and Han nationalities, the Grape Valley has more than 400 hectares of cultivated land, 220 hectares of which is grape-growing area.
On both sides of the valley are thick with trees like mulberry trees, apricot trees, peach trees, pear trees, poplar trees, willow trees, elm trees, and locust trees, all of which are arranged in order. Waters from springs flow into channels irrigating the 210-odd-hectare grape garden.
The Grape Valley is abundant in white seedless grape, "Mare's teat" grapes, rose red grapes, and preserved grapes as well as grape wines… Almost all kinds of grapes can be seen here; thus it is acclaimed as "the sweetest place". The seedless and thin-skinned white grapes produced here, in the elliptic shape, are crystal-clear, crisp, and juicy, which gains it the reputation of the "green pearl of China. All kinds of them, some were as green as emeralds, some as red as carnelians, and some too beautiful to resemble anything.
