For hundreds of years, Jiuzhaigou was tucked away in lofty and precipitous peaks in the plateau of Northwest Sichuan. This is an unusual ecosystem, with narrow conic karst landforms, renowned for its rolling mountains, dense forests, colorful lakes, precipitous waterfalls, and a wide variety of birds and animals. Stretching over 600 sq km in the northern part of Sichuan Province, the jagged peaks around Jiuzhaigou Valley reach heights of more than 4,800m. |

Jiuzhaigou Valley Sichuan Called “Zhongyangtong” in ancient times, and also called the Jade Sea in contemporary times, Jiuzhaigou, the Nine-village Valley in Chinese language, is so named as it covers nine villages including shuzheng, Heye and Zechawa. Here, mountains and rivers are arrayed in harmony, with fascinating landscapes and natural beauties in color, sound and form. Since its opening to the outside world, the oriental have called it the Celestial World on Earth; the occidental call it a fairyland. |

There are 17 waterfall clusters among lakes, 11 segment of rapid torrents, 5 travertine beaches, and 47 fountains connecting one another, characteristic of alpine travertine lake clusters, travertine waterfall clusters and travertine beaches. Here are towering snow peaks, clear and charming lakes, colorful waterfalls, violent torrents, verdant forests, and glittering snow peaks. The blue sky, radiant and charming sunlight, fresh air, as well as ancient and primitive villages, wood bridges, water mills all contribute to a finest landscape painting of rich implications and harmonious integration. Jiuzhaigou collects all the beauties of lakes, waterfalls, beaches, fountains, snow peaks, forests, as well as Tibetan customs, featuring the primitive, natural and inartificial charms. |

Jiuzhaigou Valley Sichuan Legend has it; that long, long ago the deity of mountain named Dago had a crush on the goddess Semo, and he gave a mirror that was made from wind and cloud to the goddess. However, the devil appeared and made trouble to Semo. Inadvertently, Semo broke the mirror into 108 pieces, which fell down to the earth and then turned to 108 colorful lakes. The lake is also called Haizi by local people. |
