Scenic spots of Zhongshan Mountain
Zhongshan Mountain, situated on the eastern outskirts of Nanjing, was originally called Jinling Mountain in ancient times. The name Zhongshan Mountain, first heard in the Han dynasty, has been renowned as one of the “Four famous mountains in areas south of the Yangtze River” since ancient times. Also named Purple Mountain due to its peak frequented by purple clouds, it covers an area of 31 square kilometers, with the main-peak towering 448 meters above the sea level.

Spectacular and magnificent, Zhongshan Mountain zigzags like a crouching dragon, hence enjoying the reputation of “Zhongshan Mountain resembling a crouching dragon.” As the main part of Zhongshan Mountain, the scenic area of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum witnesses a galaxy of famous scenic spots and places of historic interest of Nanjing as an ancient capital. Magnificent and solemn Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum, spectacular Ming tomb, vivid stone carvings on the tomb-path, gorgeous Plum-Blossom Hill, ancient, serene and charming Linggu Temple, limpid Purple-Glow Lake as well as many tombs of noted figures of the past, pavilions, terraces, towers and water-pavilions are interspersed amidst bamboo groves and forests, blessing Zhongshan Mountain with naturalness and wilderness as well as architectural masterpieces of meticulous craftsmanship, hence forming a scenic area with Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum as the center, an area approved by the national government as one of “Forty best tourist resorts in China.” In 1999, it won the title as “A civilized scenic area at the national level.” Thanks to its nice natural environment and perfect vegetation, Zhongshan Mountain has been listed as “A national forest park.” On July 3, 2003, the Ming Tomb in the scenic area was incorporated into “A list of world-famous cultural heritage”, becoming the only world-famous cultural heritage in Nanjing as an ancient city. The scenic area extends warm welcome to the whole world

National Park of China-Dr.Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum
The scenic area of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum With the construction started in 1926, Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum is the tomb of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the great forerunner of democratic revolution of China. On June 1, 1929, Dr. Sun Yat-sen's coffin was moved from Beijing to be buried here. Covering an area of over 133 hectares, Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum is located at the southern foot of Zhongshan Mountain. Lying on the mountain, it faces the plain with the verdant mountain at its back, enjoying a regular layout and a spectacular appeal. The mausoleum was designed by Lu Yanzhi, an outstanding Chinese architect who was concurrently the architect of tomb construction at that time. The plane of entire mausoleum ensemble looks like an alarm bell with a far-reaching significance. 700 meters long with a 70-meter difference in height, the path from the mausoleum gate to the tomb-chamber has 393 steps and 10 platforms. The arched tablet, the tomb-path, the mausoleum gate, the tablet-pavilion, the sacrificial hall and the tomb-chamber are all vertically situated on one and the same axis. Main buildings of the mausoleum are built with solid and beautiful granites and Jinshan stones which mostly came from Fujian province, Beijing, Suzhou, Qingdao and Hong Kong, etc. The archway and the top of the sacrificial hall are all covered with glazed blue tiles, appearing magnificent, spectacular, tranquil and solemn.
